Hosomaki

Hosomaki is the thin maki roll — nori on the outside, a little rice, and usually a single filling like tuna (tekka-maki) or cucumber (kappa-maki).

Hosomaki (“thin roll”) is the slim, nori-wrapped roll built around one filling. The two classics are tekka-maki (tuna) and kappa-maki (cucumber) — minimalist by design, letting a single ingredient speak.

It’s the restrained counterpoint to the fat, many-filling futomaki, and a frequent palate-resetting close to a traditional meal.
